In mid-January, Travelers Insurance made an exciting announcement: the company is giving 10,000 engineers and data scientists AI assistants to improve their work. But just two weeks later, Travelers’ leaders shared that their main strength lies not just in Artificial intelligence, but in the skill and expertise of their employees. They believe this combination will lead to long-term success.
How AI Helps Travelers’ Employees
AI Travelers Insurance is already helping more than 20,000 employees work more efficiently. According to CEO Alan Schnitzer, AI tools are making work easier for many at the company, especially in call centers. However, as AI Travelers Insurance boosts efficiency, it has also led to a reduction in the number of jobs in the company’s call centers.
Travelers Sees Growth with Technology and AI
Thanks to their focus on technology and AI, Travelers Insurance has seen a rise in profits. From 2016 to 2025, the company increased the number of insurance policies it sold by almost 7% every year. Schnitzer explained that heavy investments in AI and technology have helped Travelers Insurance grow and become more competitive.
Schnitzer said, “We’ve invested heavily in AI and technology, and this has helped improve our profits.” He added that this investment has laid the foundation for what they call Innovation 2.0, powered by AI.
Automation Cuts Jobs in Call Centers
The use of AI Travelers Insurance has made call centers more efficient. Schnitzer explained that automation has reduced the need for call center workers. For example, Travelers has cut the size of its claims call center staff by a third and is combining four centers into two.
With more than 50% of claims being processed automatically, AI Travelers Insurance has helped save time and reduce expenses. Schnitzer shared that two-thirds of customers are choosing to use AI for their claims.
AI Improves More Than Just Call Centers
AI Travelers Insurance affects more than just call centers. AI is also making underwriting better, which is the process of figuring out how much insurance a person should pay. Greg Toczydlowski, an executive at Travelers, said that AI is helping underwriters look at data more quickly and make better choices, which is making insurance policy prices better.
How AI Helps Travelers’ Employees Work Faster
Even though the company has reduced jobs in call centers, Schnitzer emphasized that AI Travelers Insurance is helping employees become more productive. He said, “We expect productivity per employee to keep growing.” AI Travelers Insurance is allowing workers to complete tasks more quickly and focus on more important work.
The Future of AI in Travelers Insurance
Looking ahead, Travelers Insurance plans to keep investing in AI and other technologies. Schnitzer believes that AI Travelers Insurance will continue to transform the industry, making it faster, smarter, and more efficient. “Dozens of AI tools are already in production, and millions of transactions are automated,” Schnitzer said.
As ai Travelers Insurance grows, it’s clear that AI will play a key role in shaping the future of the insurance industry.
